THIRD GRADERS MUST PASS READING OR BE HELD BACK
Starting this fall all South Carolina third graders failing to read on grade level will be held back. About 5% of all third graders who took the state wide reading test would have been targeted for repeating the grade had the new state law been in effect last school year. Third graders were selected because this is the year students start using reading to learn across all subjects instead of just “learning to read”.
